Product Comparison, by Galt Software · Last updated July 21, 2026
Product Comparison is a local-first tool. It runs entirely in your browser. Galt Software does not operate a server for it and does not receive, collect, store, or sell any of your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking cookies set by this tool.
What is stored, and where
Everything the tool saves is kept in your browser's localStorage, on your own
device:
- Your Gemini API key.
- Cached product extractions and comparison results.
- Your comparison history (which you can recall or delete at any time).
- Settings such as the chosen model and reader-proxy configuration.
This data never leaves your device except through the third-party requests you trigger, described below. You can remove it with “Clear all cached data”, by deleting individual history entries, or by clearing your browser storage.
Third-party services you trigger
When you run a comparison, your browser makes requests directly to:
- Google Gemini API. The product URLs, page content, and prompts are sent directly from your browser to Google, authenticated with your API key, to produce extractions and comparisons. Your key is sent only to Google — never to Galt Software. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's privacy policy.
-
Reader proxy (default
r.jina.ai). When enabled and a page can't be read directly, the product URL is sent to this service to fetch the page's text. Its handling is governed by that provider's policy. You can disable it or point it at a different reader in Settings.
Browser extension
The optional browser extension lists your open tabs and, for the tabs you explicitly select, reads their rendered content solely to build your comparison. That content is processed locally and sent only to the services above. It is never transmitted to Galt Software. The extension requests only the permissions needed for this (tab access, local storage, and script access to the tabs you choose).
Changes
This policy may be updated as the tool evolves; the “Last updated” date above reflects the current version. Questions can be directed to Galt Software.
